Norway’s status as one of the richest countries in the world is largely due to a stroke of luck that occurred some 40 years ago. The discovery of oil in the North Sea turned the nation upside down and transformed it from pauper to prince over the span of just a few years.

Pioneer depicts the barren depths of the ocean. The monochrome images based on colours from the bottom of the sea are accompanied by a former North Sea diver’s voice-over narration. Talking from his own dramatic experience, he tells the story of the first hazardous dives that laid the foundation for the Norwegian oil adventure.

Norges status som ett av verdens rikeste land er i stor grad grunnet et lykketreff som inntraff for omtrent 40 år siden. Oljefunnene i Nordsjøen snudde nasjonen opp ned og forvandlet landet fra fattig til rik i løpet av bare noen få år.

Pionér beskriver Nordsjøens golde dyp. De monokrome flatene er basert på farger fra dypvannsfotografi, og akkompagneres av stemmen til en tidligere nordsjødykker. Basert på hans egen erfaring, forteller han historien om de første hasardiøse dykkene som la grunnen for det norske oljeeventyret.
