Three Months' Work

A result of three months work as part of the staff at the Oslo department of the Red Cross.

The project’s starting point is a questioning of politically engaged art’s ability to produce real changes in the world. The three months at the Red Cross corresponded to the time Heier would otherwise have spent producing a concrete work for the exhibition. Together with the emptiness in the exhibition space, the speech thereby replaces the work which would otherwise have been installed there. The work questions how art functions, and how the institutional frames around art shapes its functions in the world outside.

The speech was performed in an empty space at the Stenersen museum at the opening of the exhibition «Jamais – Toujours» in January 2010.

Resultat av tre måneders arbeid som del av staben ved Oslo Røde Kors.

Prosjektet tok utgangspunkt i spørsmålet om den politisk engasjerte kunstens evne til å produsere reelle endringer i verden. De tre månedene på Røde Kors tilsvarte tiden Heier ville brukt på å produsere et konkret verk til utstillingen. Talen, sammen med tomheten i utstillingsrommet, erstatter dermed verket som ellers ville vært der. Arbeidet stiller spørsmål ved hvordan kunst fungerer, og hvordan de institusjonelle rammene rundt kunsten former dens funksjon i offentligheten.

Talen ble holdt i et tomt rom på Stenersenmuseet på åpningen av utstillingen «Jamais – Toujours» i januar 2010.
