A Historical Opportunity

Selected documents from artist Eva Lange’s private archive, dated 1974, the year of the constitution of Artists' Action -74 and a landmark year for Norwegian art politics. The installation consists of ten graphs of possible models of payment for the guaranteed minimum income to artists (a main achievement of the Artists' Action), a letter of protest against the expansion of the cultural bureaucracy and the so-called ‘Three-points-demand’, which is the original manifesto for all negotiations of public funding of art production in Norway, all signed by the artists themselves. What was negotiated and achieved by the artists during the years of activity of the Artists' Action is still the financial basis for most contemporary art production in Norway today, but it is a system under constant political attack. The ‘Three-points-demand’ is distributed as a poster together with Heier’s speech 'Det som er oss’ ('What We Are') from 2015, which deals with many of the same issues.

Utvalgte dokumenter fra billedkunstner Eva Langes private arkiv, datert 1974, året for oppstarten av Kunstneraksjon -74 og et merkeår for norsk kunstpolitikk. Installasjonen består av ti grafer over mulige utbetalingsmodeller for garantert minsteinntekt til kunstnere (et hovedresultat for Kunstneraksjonen), et protestbrev mot utbygging av kulturbyråkratiet, samt det såkalte trepunktskravet som er utgangspunktet for alle forhandlinger mellom kunstnere og staten om offentlig finansiering av kunstproduksjon i Norge, alle signert kunstnerne selv. Resultatet av Kunstneraksjonen utgjør fortsatt det økonomiske grunnlaget for mesteparten av norsk samtidskunstproduksjon, men det er i dag et system under kontinuerlig politisk press. Trepunktskravet deles ut som plakat sammen med Heiers tale ’Det som er oss’ fra 2015, som omhandler flere av de samme temaene.
