For the period of 2005-2006, Heier was awarded the Norwegian Government’s work grant for younger and newly established artists. Somewhat simplified, one might say that this money – as does the majority of public funding in Norway – originates from the North Sea.

The Government artist grant is intended to serve as salary, thereby allowing the artists to free up their time from other bread-and-butter work to focus on their artistic development. Nevertheless, she opted to spend this time taking paid jobs. These temporary gigs all share a common didactic purpose that reproduces my own artistic expertise. Heier then placed the income generated by these activities in shares in the Norwegian oil and offshore industry. In this way, she reinvested the grant money back into the origin and main source of the Norwegian economy.

I perioden 2005 – 2006 mottok Heier Statens arbeidsstipend for yngre kunstnere. Litt forenklet kan man si at disse pengene, i likhet med mesteparten av offentlige midler i Norge, kommer fra driften av Nordsjøen.

Arbeidsstipendet er ment å fungere som lønn, og på denne måten frigjøre kunstnernes tid til å fordype seg i egen kunstproduksjon. I stedet for å jobbe på atelieret tok Heier en rekke kunstrelaterte jobber i den frigitte tiden. For pengene hun tjente kjøpte hun aksjer i norsk olje- og offshore-industri. På denne måten reinvesterte hun stipendmidlene i hovedkilden til norsk offentlig økonomi.
